Dublin Airport (DUB) Information: History and Facilities
Dublin Airport was officially born in the late 1930s and flights began in 1940, when a number of Aer Lingus planes set off for Liverpool. At this stage the airport was known as Collinstown Airport and featured an award-winning, curved terminal, which is still in use today, and grass runways, which were soon to be surfaced

Throughout the war years, Dublin Airport maintained its regular flights to and from Liverpool and post-war, intercontinental services commenced. The following years were a busy time for the airport and by 1970 construction of a new terminal was well underway, to increase the overall capacity to around six million passengers per year. Currently a second terminal is being built at the cost of more than €1 billion.

Since opening in 1940, more than 240 million passengers have used Dublin Airport (DUB) to reach their destination and facilities have improved beyond recognition compared to those early years. Dublin Airport has all the facilities you have come to expect of a modern international airport. With around 25 places to shop, this is plenty here to help you pass your time. Airport shops are concentrated around an area known as 'The Street' and include the Jean Scene, Monsoon, Travel Value, the World of Travel, Wrights of Howth and the Guinness Shop, a good spot to purchase the ultimate Dublin souvenir.

Bars and restaurants are also onsite and suitable for a wide range of budgets, meaning than Dublin Airport is a good place to relax as you await your flight's departure. Those looking for something to eat will find that the Butlers Chocolate Café has become a firm favourite with travellers, along with Cafe Ritazza, the Mezz Food Court and the Skyview Bar. Other services available at Dublin Airport include nursery facilities, a meet-and-greet service, executive parking and VIP services including showering facilities, complimentary refreshments, free Wi-Fi, and business amenities within the Anna Livia Departure Lounge.
